About two and a half hours later, deputies say they received a report of a similar incident in the same general area.

SPRING HILL – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who shot at a deputy while he was at a traffic stop on County Line Road.

The deputy and the person he had pulled over were not injured in the drive-by shooting.

Deputies said that, just before midnight Thursday (Sept. 12), a deputy conducted a traffic stop on the south side of County Line Road just east of the Suncoast Parkway in Spring Hill. The deputy completed the stop just after midnight and returned the driver’s identification to him.

As the deputy began to walk back to his patrol vehicle, he saw a man driving a white sedan west on County Line Road. As the driver passed the deputy, the driver put his arm out the driver’s window, pointed a firearm into the air, and fired two rounds. The deputy observed the muzzle flash at least twice.

The deputy took cover between his own (patrol) vehicle and the vehicle he had pulled over.

The white sedan sped off, heading west on County Line Road at a high rate of speed.

The deputy checked on the driver of the vehicle he had pulled over. The driver was not injured.

The deputy then got into his patrol vehicle and tried to find the white sedan. Other units were being dispatched and were self-dispatching to the area to help in the search.

Patrol deputies from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol joined the search, which was unsuccessful.

About two and a half hours later, at about 2:40 a.m. on Friday (Sept. 13), deputies received a report of a similar incident in the same general area.

The investigation remains active.
