Hernando Court House Evacuated After Bomb Threats

Hernando County sheriff’s deputies conducted thorough checks of the building and grounds after each bomb threat. No bombs were found.

HERNANDO COUNTY – The Hernando County Court House was twice evacuated today (Nov. 7) after officials received bomb threats.

No bombs were found, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

But the disruption caused the postponement of the Hernando County Commission meeting that was interrupted by the threats. The meeting will be resumed Nov. 14.

Deputies said the first threat came in about 10:04 a.m. and the second at 12:22 p.m. Both times sheriff’s deputies, officers from the Brooksville Police Department and firefighters from Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Brooksville Fire Department were called.

The Court House was evacuated, traffic was detoured from the immediate area of the Court House for safety reasons, and deputies conducted thorough checks of the building and grounds after each bomb threat. All searches yielded negative results.

Deputies said the investigation is continuing.
