Gulfport Police: Man Used Metal Bat to Beat Roommate During Argument
They were arguing over the way the victim handled money, Gulfport police say.
GULFPORT – A man was arrested after he attacked his roommate and hit him with a metal baseball bat, according to the Gulfport Police Department.
The name of the roommate/friend was not released. Police said he was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with a traumatic brain injury. He was listed in stable condition.
Stephen Richard Moran, 41, of Gulfport, was charged with one count of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
Police said they were called to the victim’s home about 3:39 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 14) for a call about an aggravated battery. They said Moran had used a metal baseball bat to beat his roommate/friend several
times in his head and body.
The attack was apparently unprovoked and, officers said, Moran told them that he basically talked himself into the attack as he was upset with how the victim handled money.
