Graves Vandalized at Historic Tampa Cemetery

Tampa police are asking for help in finding the person(s) responsible for damaging graves in the Centro Espanol de Tampa cemetery.

TAMPA – Officers are searching for the person or persons who damaged graves in the historic Centro Espanol de Tampa cemetery.

The vandal(s) entered the cemetery, 2502 E 21st Ave., sometime within the past two or three days, the Tampa Police Department said.

The vandal(s) apparently used a heavy object – possibly a sledgehammer – to damage 18 tombs and statues. The cemetery, which was established in 1904, has about 1,600 graves.

Tampa police are working to develop leads in the case.
