Graves Vandalized at Historic Tampa Cemetery
Tampa police are asking for help in finding the person(s) responsible for damaging graves in the Centro Espanol de Tampa cemetery.
TAMPA – Officers are searching for the person or persons who damaged graves in the historic Centro Espanol de Tampa cemetery.
The vandal(s) entered the cemetery, 2502 E 21st Ave., sometime within the past two or three days, the Tampa Police Department said.
The vandal(s) apparently used a heavy object – possibly a sledgehammer – to damage 18 tombs and statues. The cemetery, which was established in 1904, has about 1,600 graves.
Tampa police are working to develop leads in the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477), report anonymously online at crimestopperstb.com or send a mobile tip using the P3 Tips Mobile application, which is a free download for iPhones, iPads and Droids.
