The two had been arguing and, Pinellas deputies said, the girlfriend admitted she got the gun because she intended to shoot her boyfriend.

DUNEDIN – A Dunedin woman was arrested after she shot her boyfriend during an argument, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim, a 26-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with an abdominal wound. He was in stable condition.

Tikerria Nashay Bell, 21, of Dunedin, was charged with one count of First Degree Attempted Murder.

Deputies said they were called to a home in Dunedin about 6:58 a.m. Monday (Oct. 14) for a report that a man had been shot. The man and Bell, his girlfriend, had been arguing. Bell had left the scene before deputies arrived.

Deputies interviewed Bell later Monday. They said Bell told them that, while arguing, she told her boyfriend to leave the house. According to Bell, her boyfriend struck her in the face, so she left the bedroom to retrieve her firearm from her purse. Bell admitted to detectives she was “mad” and her intent was to get the gun, return with the gun, and shoot her boyfriend.

Bell told deputies that her boyfriend tried to close the bedroom door after she go the gun. Bell told detectives she was able to force her way into the bedroom with the firearm.

Bell said her boyfriend put her in a choke hold and she shot him one time, in his left abdomen. Bell said she then left the house with her 18-month-old daughter without contacting 911.

Detectives arrested Bell. Her daughter was placed with family members.
