Girl, 15, Accused of Threatening School Violence

She made the threat in a Facebook posting, the St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A ninth grader at Gibbs High School has been accused of threatening violence at the school, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

The 15-year-old girl,. whose name was withheld because of her age, was charged with one count of making a “written threat to kill, do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism,” a second-degree felony.

Police said they received a tip late Thursday (Sept. 14) about a post she had made on Facebook in which she said she was going to take a gun to school.

Officers said the incident should serve as a reminder to all students that such statements are considered to be serious matters. The The St. Petersburg Police Department said it will investigate any and all perceived threats to the safety and well being of schoolchildren.
