FHP Charges Woman, 73, with DUI Manslaughter

She was driving the wrong way and hit another car head on, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A New Port Richey woman has been charged with DUI manslaughter in connection with a fatal traffic crash in January, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Kathleen A. Raspolich, 73, of New Port Richey was charged with one count each of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and DUI property damage.

The charges stem from a Jan. 29 crash that happened about 10:12 p.m. on County Road 77 (Seven Springs Boulevard) south of Mitchell Boulevard in Pasco County. Joseph Volpatti, 51, of New Port Richey, died Feb. 11 of injuries he suffered in the crash. (Click here for related story.)

Troopers said Raspolich was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Avalon south in the northbound lanes of CR 77 at a high rate of speed. Raspolich collided head on with the 2006 Chrysler Sebring that Mr. Volpatti was driving and overturned.

Mr. Volpatti was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Raspolich was taken to Bayonet Point with serious injuries.

FHP troopers arrested Raspolich on Monday (Oct. 1).
