Daniel Nixon | Pinellas Sheriff | Arrests

He intentionally squeezed the infant, causing more than 20 rib fractures, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A Pinellas Park man is accused of intentionally squeezing his 1-month-old daughter so hard that he fractured several of her ribs, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Daniel Nixon, 25, of Pinellas Park, was charged with one count of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm. The incidents happened at private homes in Pinellas Park and Seminole.

Deputies began their investigation Tuesday (July 11) after the infant was admitted to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for fractured ribs and bruising. Deputies said Nixon and the baby’s mother, Sara Nixon, 25, took the child to the hospital for digestive problems and a bruise to her leg. Deputies said doctors told them the infant suffered from more than 20 rib fractures.

Deputies interviewed both parents and said Daniel Nixon’s statements had inconsistencies. They interviewed Nixon again Thursday (July 13) and said he admitted that he intentionally squeezed the infant on at least two occasions, with significant force, because the baby was crying and he was frustrated.

The infant was released from the hospital to the custody of a family member.
