HERNANDO COUNTY – Deputies here said they captured a man in the Withlacoochee State Forest who had escaped from a Lake City correctional facility.
Tyler Michael Trutt, 20, was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center, where he was charged with one count of grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Hernando County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee Forest about 3:51 p.m. Saturday (June 3) to search for Trutt, who was believed to be hiding in the forest.
Deputies said Trutt failed to return from a job Friday (June 2) in Gilchrist County that was associated with a work release program at the Lake City Bridge Community Release Center in Columbia County. The facility is a community release center that contracts with the Florida Department of Corrections.
The Hernando sheriff’s aviation and K-9 units were called in to help with the search for Trutt, who is originally from the Brooksville area.
