TAMPA – A dump truck driver is charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash after an early morning crash Monday (Feb. 20) killed a pedestrian, Tampa police said.

David Yribar-Hernandez, 46 (DOB: 4/19/1970) of 4534 Clifton St. W in Tampa is charged with leaving the scene of a crash with death and fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer.

Stephen J. Waters, 39, of Tampa, was struck and killed by a dump truck about 5:40 a.m., at the intersection of E Columbus Drive and N 50th Street. The truck did not stop, but an eye witness described the truck to police.

A short time later, a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a truck matching the description. The truck stopped, but while the deputy was making contact with the driver, the truck left. Police said the truck stopped a short time later near N 50th Street and I-4 and the driver was detained. Tampa police detectives said they were able to determine that it was the truck that was involved in the fatal collision.
