Driver Hits Pedestrian, Bar During Dispute in Ybor City

The driver fled the scene, Tampa police said.

YBOR CITY – Police say they are investigating an early morning crash that left a pedestrian injured and damaged a bar.

Tampa police said a dispute among multiple people began in front of the Bad Monkey Bar, 1717 E Seventh Ave. in Ybor City, about 3:25 this morning (Nov. 15). One of the people involved in the dispute, got into a vehicle and tried to make a U-turn on Seventh Avenue but was unable to complete the maneuver. Others involved in the affray began to attack the car/driver.

The driver accelerated, police said, and struck one of them with the vehicle, resulting in a leg injury. The vehicle continued into the front door of  the Bad Monkey, damaging the property. The driver fled on foot. officers said. The victim was taken to the hospital where he refused medical treatment.

Police said there is no indication of any political motivation for the initial dispute.
