Tampa police said he called 911 to turn himself in.

TAMPA – A Tampa man is accused of leaving the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Therese Nicole Ingram, 45, died at the scene.

Ruell Calvin Thompson, 22, of Tampa, was charged with one count each of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and DUI manslaughter.

Ms. Ingram was struck in the northbound lane of N Nebraska Avenue about 3:46 a.m. The driver left the scene. About 19 minutes after the crash, Thompson called 911 to report that he struck someone on Nebraska Avenue. Police said they arranged to meet him. The subsequent investigation led to his arrest.

The preliminary investigation indicated the car was traveling at an excessive speed and that contributed to the crash and the fatality, officers said.
