PASCO COUNTY – A Land O’ Lakes man was accused of DUI manslaughter in connection with a one-vehicle crash that killed the passenger early this morning (Dec. 19), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

James Stewart, 22, of Lutz, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital North where he was taken after the crash. Neither he nor the driver, Patrick John Sessa, was wearing a seat belt. Sessa was not injured in the crash.

Sessa, 23, of Land O’ Lakes, was charged with one count of DUI manslaughter.

The crash happened about 1:31 a.m. at the intersection of Bell Lake and Lake Padgett roads. Troopers said Sessa was driving a 2002 Ford SUV east on Bell Lake. He lost control of the SUV while trying to make a left turn onto Lake Padgett. The SUV left the road and went into a ditch where Mr. Stewart was thrown from the vehicle. The SUV then overturned onto Mr. Stewart.
