HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – One person was injured when a man lost control of the pickup truck he was driving and hit an apartment building, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Yasiel Toledo-Ruiz was taken to Florida Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Toledo-Ruiz was on a sofa located in the living room of the apartment and was thrown from the sofa when the crash happened.
Marcellino Perez, 28, of Tampa, was charged with one count each of leaving the scene of a crash with injury, no valid driver’s license and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer.
The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 9). Perez was driving a 1998 Ford F150 pickup traveling east on 140th Avenue E. Deputies said Perez lost control, left the roadway, hit a fence and then crashed into an apartment building.
Perez then fled the scene on foot. Deputies said he was found about one mile away. Two witnesses identified Perez as the driver.
Perez has never had a driver’s license issued to him. Deputies said he told them his name was Carlos Diaz, but was positively as Marcellino Perez by his fingerprint through the RapidID System.
