Deputies Accuse Clearwater Man of Sexual Battery on 5-Year-Old Child

PINELLAS COUNTY – A Clearwater man has been accused of molesting a 5-year-old child, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Charles Kenneth Spoonemore, 47, of Clearwater, was charged with one count of capital sexual battery. Deputies said the child was between 4 and 5 years old at the time the incident happened at a residence in Clearwater.

Pinellas deputies began investigating Jan. 3 after the 5-year old girl told an adult of inappropriate sexual activity that had occurred.

Deputies said that they were able to confirm that, in December, Spoonemore had inappropriate sexual activity with the child and that the inappropriate sexual activity happened more than once.The molestation happened, they said, while the child was in Spoonemore’s care.

At about 1:05 p.m. Friday (Jan. 5), deputies tried to interview Spoonemore at the Sheriff’s Administration Building in Largo. Spoonemore denied the allegations. Deputies then arrested him.
