One Dead in Deputy-Involved Shooting in Pasco

No deputies were injured.

LUMBERTON – One man is dead after deputies fired on him in self defense, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

James Palmquist, 54, died at a hospital where he was taken after the shooting. Neither deputy involved in the shooting – Sgt. Chad Tadlock nor Deputy Aaron Ziegler – was injured. Tadlock is an 18-yeaaer department veteran. Ziegler has been with the department since 2007.

Dispatch received a call about 6:32 p.m. Thursday (June 28) from a man claiming his roommate was suicidal and had taken a hundred pills.

When deputies arrived at Many Mansion RV Park on Stewart Road in Lumberton, the alleged suicidal male came out of the mobile home and fired a shotgun toward deputies. Deputies returned fire and shot the man who later died. Before firing his gun, the decedent shouted “F-you, cops,” which, deputies said, made his his intentions to potentially harm them “very clear.”

The deputies involved have been put on paid administrative leave as is protocol.
