CLEARWATER – Police here are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Clearwater Police Department said.

Ugenio Cortez, 50, was airlifted to Bayfront Health, officers said.

Police say the shooting happened about 6:28 p.m.Saturday (Feb. 4) at 1576 S Madison Ave. When officers arrived, they found Cortez suffering from a gunshot wound. The suspect and victim knew each other, and officers say the shooting was not a random act. The investigation is continuing.
