Clearwater Man Charged in Belleair Bluffs Murder

Pinellas deputies say the two had been arguing for a couple of days before the shooting.

BELLEAIR BLUFFS – A Clearwater man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a Belleair Bluffs man, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Darius L. Johnson, 24, of Belleair Bluffs, died Saturday (Aug. 17) of gunshot wounds at the scene.

David Cesar Murray Biggs, 22, of Clearwater, was charged with one count of Murder in the First Degree.

Pinellas deputies were dispatched to a residence on E Overbrook Street in Belleair Bluffs about 12:27 p.m. Saturday for reports of multiple gun shots. When they arrived, deputies said they found Mr. Johnson dead inside his home.

Mr. Johnson and Biggs had been arguing for a couple of days before the shooting. Deputies said the argument had escalated to verbal threats.

On Saturday afternoon, Biggs drove to Mr. Johnson’s residence and they began arguing outside the home. During the argument, Biggs produced a gun and began shooting Mr. Johnson who retreated inside his
home. Deputies said Biggs followed, forcing himself inside, where he continued to shoot Mr. Johnson.

Biggs left after shooting Mr. Johnson and was taken into custody a short time later by Pinellas deputies.
