Clearwater Man Accused in St. Petersburg Cold-Case Rapes

Terry Dewayne White | St. Petersburg Police | Arrests

Officers are investigating whether he might be linked to cases in other jurisdictions, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

ST. PETERSBURG – A Clearwater man has been charged in two St. Petersburg rapes after his DNA matched cases that happened in 1999 and 2001, St. Petersburg police said.

Terry Dewayne White, 49, of Clearwater, is charged with two counts pf sexual battery (two separate sex acts) in the 1999 case, and one count each of sexual battery and kidnapping in the 2001 case.

Police said his DNA matches the DNA profile in a May 2, 1999, case. In that case, a 22-year-old woman was driving near Martin Luther King St. S and Jasmine Way when her car broke down shortly after midnight. A man stopped to help her, and instead took her to another location and raped her.

The other case happened about 5 a.m. on July 26, 2001. A 21-year-old woman was walking in the area of the 3300 block of First Avenue S when a man grabbed her and forced her into his vehicle. He took her to another location and raped her.

The DNA profiles in the 1999 and 2001 cases matched each other. Just recently, police said, they also matched DNA that White provided in an unrelated investigation by another agency.
