HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Bradenton man is facing multiple charges after fleeing from troopers, ramming a patrol car and driving the wrong way, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Joseph R. Neumair, 34, of Bradenton, was charged with DUI with property damage or personal injury, reckless driving with property damage or personal injury, refusal to submit to testing, aggravated fleeing to elude, expired drivers license more than six months, fleeing to elude high speed, and DUI fourth or subsequent offense.

About 5:04 this morning (May 17), FHP troopers said they were told that a 2011 Nissan Rogue traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-75 near the Hillsborough and Manatee County line. As troopers responded, additional reports indicated that the wrong-way driver exited at Gibsonton Road traveling westbound. At the intersection of U.S. 41 and Gibsonton Road, a trooper overtook the suspect at a traffic signal.

After the trooper turn on his emergency lights, the driver, without warning, reversed and rammed the front of the FHP patrol car, then fled southbound on U.S. 41 where, for a time, he was seen traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

Troopers said they pursued the Nissan south on U.S. 41 during which time the driver tried to ram other patrol cars.

The Nissan continued until it reached the intersection of U.S. 41 and 105 Street SE where troopers said they used a PIT maneuver to end the pursuit.

Neumair, the driver, was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail.
