The investigation is ongoing, Hernando sheriff’s deputies said.

SPRING HILL – A man and a woman have been accused of stealing from mailboxes in Spring Hill, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

Nicholas Christopher Cimino, 31, of Spring Hill, has been charged with petit theft, which is a felony because of previous convictions; dealing in stolen property; defrauding a pawn broker; and burglary.

Lauren Renea Smith, 27, also of Spring Hill, has been charged with fleeing/attempt to elude police officer, resisting an officer without violence, knowingly driving with a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges were in connection with incidents on Wednesday (Dec. 6) and Thursday (Dec. 7), deputies said. On Wednesday, a Spring Hill resident living on Pillar Avenue reported the theft
of three gift cards from the mailbox located in the front of his residence. On Thursday, residents living on Winding Oaks Lane in Spring Hill reported seeing a man and a woman, who were driving a dark blue Chevy Impala, removing items from a mailbox.

Deputies said they used the information from the two incidents to find the suspects. No additional details were available because the investigation is ongoing.

The stolen items were recovered, deputies said.
