The confrontation over the student’s driving took place on the grounds of Hernando High School, Hernando deputies said.

BROOKSVILLE – A Brooksville man was arrested after he followed a teen onto the grounds of Hernando High School and pointed a gun at him during a confrontation, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert Thomas Browsky, 67, was charged with one count each of Trespass on School Grounds, Possession of Firearm on School Grounds, and Aggravated Assault w/Firearm. He turned himself in to deputies Wednesday (Nov. 28).

Deputies said the charges arose from a confrontation between Browsky and a Hernando High student that took place about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 27). School Resource Deputy Bill Pope was notified that an altercation was taking place in the student parking lot at the Brooksville school. The student who reported the confrontation told Pope that an adult man and a student were engaged in a verbal altercation and
that the man was brandishing a firearm.

While the witness was telling Pope what happened in the parking lot, he was told that the man – Browsky –  had come into the lobby of the school office. The man no longer had a weapon.

Browsky told Pope that earlier that morning, while in the area of Mount Fair Avenue and Rogers Avenue in Brooksville, he was walking his dog and heard a vehicle coming at what he believed to be a high rate of speed. As the black pickup truck passed him, Browsky told Pope he used both of his hands to motion toward the ground, requesting the driver to slow down.

The driver of the pickup truck continued for a short distance then backed up, stopping close to Browsky and his dog. According to Browsky, the driver then began yelling and cursing at him and threatened to beat him up. The driver then left the area. Browsky noted the first three letters of the tag.

Deputies said Browsky went home and got into his vehicle and drove to Hernando High. He told deputies he believed the driver was a student there. Browsky found the black pickup truck in the student parking lot and got out of his vehicle to photograph the tag and then meet with the school resource deputy to discuss the matter.

As Browsky was taking a photo of the tag, he was approached by the driver (a student) and another male student. Pope said Browsky told him that the driver of the pickup truck confronted him about taking a photo of the tag and tried to get Browsky’s phone from him. Browsky said he went back to his truck but the driver followed him and continued using an excessive amount of profanity toward him.

When Browsky got to his vehicle, he opened the door and got a gun from the center console. Deputies said he approached the student with the firearm pointed in the student’s direction. Browsky then got back into his vehicle and drove to the front office of the school.

Pope got the firearm and ammunition.

All information was immediately sent to the State Attorney’s Office for review. After consulting with the state attorney, deputies got a warrant for Browsky’s arrest.
