Boy, 12, Accused of Burglarizing St. Petersburg School

The crime happened while the school was closed for Hurricane Irma, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A 12-year-old boy has been accused of breaking into Melrose Elementary School, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The boy is facing a felony commercial burglary charge after a laptop and fire extinguisher were taken.

The burglary happened between Sept. 6 and Sept. 14 while the school, 1752 13th Ave. S, was closed for Hurricane Irma. Officers said surveillance video showed the boy inside the school several times while it was not open.
