Arrest Made in 2015 Road Rage That Ended with Machete Attack

Jason Robert Putnam | Pasco Sheriff | Arrests

A warrant was issued for the attacker’s arrest but he was not located until this week, Pasco deputies said.

NEW PORT RICHEY – A New Port Richey man has been accused of attacking another man with a machete during a 2015 road rage incident, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jason Robert Putnam, 38, of New Port Richey, was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Deputies said the incident happened about 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9, 2015.

Putnam and another man got into an argument because of a “road rage” incident, deputies said. The argument escalated to a fight. After the two separated, Putnam went to his girlfriend’s vehicle and pulled out a machete.

Putnam ran toward the other man and raised the weapon in a vertical position and slashed the machete down to strike the other man’s upper body.  The man put up his hand to protect himself against the blow from the machete, deputies said, and was cut between his ring and middle fingers. He left in his girlfriend’s vehicle.

A warrant was issued for Putnam’s arrest. The arresting deputy said he came into contact with him during an unrelated investigation and made the arrest.
