Apartment Intruder Stabbed, Killed by Apartment Dweller in St. Pete

At this time, no charges have been filed, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

ST. PETERSBURG – A man who forced his way into an apartment has died of injuries he received when one of the residents stabbed him, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Zachery Eggleston, 23, died at the hospital where he was taken. The man who stabbed him, Jonathan Garcia, 29, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for his wounds. His condition is unclear.

Police said Mr. Eggleston forced his way into an apartment on 77th Avenue N where Garcia, his girlfriend and her daughter had been sleeping. The two men got involved in a physical struggle. During the fight, police said, Garcia stabbed Mr. Eggleston.

Both men live in the same apartment complex but Garcia did not know the other man.

This is still an ongoing investigation, police said, but at this time Garcia has not been charged.
