PINELLAS COUNTY – Two St. Petersburg men have been accused of luring a family to a home to sell them a cell phone then robbing them at gunpoint, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Jermaine A. Brown, 20, and Rober C. Walker, 18, both of St. Petersburg, were each charged with one count of robbery with a deadly weapon or firearm.

The robbery happened about 8:52 p.m. July 16 outside a private residence on Yellow Pine Street in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

Brown was arrested Tuesday (Sept. 4) when he turned himself in to the St. Petersburg Police Department for an unrelated attempted murder criminal charge. Detectives who interviewed Brown said he admitted  the robbery allegations.

Walker was arrested Friday (Sept. 7) after deputies found him at Boca Ciega High School, 924 58th St. S in Gulfport. Detectives interviewed Walker and said he also admitted the robbery allegations.

According to detectives, 23-year-old Miguel Martinez-Ramirez and his wife, 23-year-old Maribel Martinez, were using the Facebook Market Place social media app to buy a cellular phone. Martinez-Ramirez was communicating online with the seller of a Samsung Galaxy cell phone. Martinez-Ramirezl negotiated a price to buy the cell phone from the seller identified online as “Destiny Dawes.”

The seller told Martinez-Ramirez Migel to meet him at a residence on Yellow Pine Street in St. Petersburg, to complete the transaction. Martinez-Ramirez drove with his wife, Maribel, and their newborn child to the prearranged location and parked outside the residence.

While they were waiting to meet the seller, a dark colored vehicle pulled up and two men armed with guns and wearing hoodies over their faces got out.

Detectives said one man approached Martinez-Ramirez, who was sitting in the driver seat, and pointed a gun at him demanding money. The second man approached Martinez-Ramirez’s wife and pointed a gun at her while she was seated in the passenger seat holding her newborn child.

The men took personal property and about $500 in cash before fleeing the scene in their vehicle.

Detectives said no one was injured.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives said they got both a partial tag number for the suspects’ vehicle and were able to identify the suspects as Brown and Walker.
