They said they were “air drying” themselves after showering when they were spotted at a rest stop on I-75, FHP troopers said.

PASCO COUNTY – Three women were in custody Wednesday (April 10) after a chase during which two of them tried to hit a trooper with a car and a metal bat, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Several of the troopers sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the car, Oasis Shakira McLeod, 18, and her passengers Jeniyah McLeod, 19, and Cecelia Eunique Young, 19, were facing an array of charges that included Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Assault and Lewd conduct. It is unclear who is facing which charges.

Troopers said FHP units in Pasco County were dispatched to a suspicious persons call at the northbound I-75 rest area, south of State Road 54 at about 11:15 a.m.

Trooper Danielle Poulin arrived on scene and saw three naked women who said that they had showered and were “air drying.”  As Poulin tried to gather information, the three ran and got into a white 2009 Nissan Sentra and fled through the northbound rest area entrance (heading southbound) before turning back northbound. They then traveled north on I-75 toward State Road 52. Poulin began pursing them, but the pursuit was cancelled because it did not fit with FHP criteria.

A citizen then called into *347 to report the reckless car and remained on the phone with FHP dispatch providing location updates.

As the vehicle turned east onto SR 52, Trooper Christopher Brando located the car, which briefly drove in the wrong direction before turning back eastbound on SR 52.

Brando initiated a pursuit for the observed reckless driving. Brando was able to deploy StarChase projectiles successfully that enabled troopers to back off and dispatch to coordinate FHP response/perimeter activities.

The Nissan was tracked as it pulled into a convenience store parking lot located at SR 52 and Curley Road where troopers found it empty.

As the three women left the store and got into the car, Trooper Ronald Paulin tried to take one into custody.

Troopers said that,  while Paulin was trying to arrest her, Oasis Shakira McLeod, the driver, purposely drove directly at him. Paulin let her go and jumped back to avoid being hit by the car.

The other passenger got out of the Nissan with a metal bat and tried to hit Paulin. FHP Sgt. Dennis Rich, seeing that Paulin was in imminent danger, rammed the Nissan with his marked patrol vehicle. The Nissan gain fled east on SR 52 with Rich and Paulin in pursuit.

Officer from the Dade City Police Department responded to the area and deployed stop sticks, successfully deflating the right side tires.

Because of the aggravated assault charges and the totality of the circumstances,  the FHP authorized Brando was authorized to PIT the Nissan. Brando completed the action successfully, bringing the pursuit to a conclusion at SR 52 and 21st Street in Dade City.

Once stopped, troopers said Paulin broke out the Nissan’s windows because all three women refused to get out of the car and continued to actively resist arrest and interlocked their arms together.

Troopers tasered all three and took them to the Pasco County Jail.
