Tampa Man Sentenced in Witness Tampering
He is facing more than eight years in a federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
TAMPA – A Tampa man was sentenced to eight years and three months in a federal prison for tampering with a federal witness, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida said.
William Beach, 40, of Tampa, was found guilty after a jury trial on Dec. 17.
According to court documents and trial testimony, Beach threatened to shoot a key federal witness in a case (U.S. v. Corey Damond Smith, Jr., involving a death caused by a fentanyl overdose), if that witness continued to cooperate with the investigation and prosecution of the defendant. Law enforcement immediately intervened to protect the safety of the federal witness.
