HERNANDO COUNTY – A Spring Hill man is facing 35 years in prison after his conviction on heroin trafficking and other drug-related charges, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

Kelvin Johnson, 48, of Spring Hill, was sentenced to 35 years after he was found guilty on all charges: Trafficking in Heroin, Sell/Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (two
counts), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (two counts), Racketeering, Possession of a Two-Way Communication Device to Facilitate a Felony, and Habitual Driving While License Suspended/Revoked (two counts).

Deputies said their investigation of Johnson began in May 2016 when a package containing numerous individual packets of heroin was intercepted by U.S. postal inspectors in New Jersey. The package, which
weighed roughly 13 pounds, was being shipped to an address in Spring Hill.

Investigation revealed that Johnson lived at the address the package was being shipped to.

A Hernando sheriff’s vice and narcotics detective facilitated a controlled purchase of the heroin from Johnson.

During January 2017, Johnson and others traveled to New Jersey and back within a 48-hour time period.

During the 48-hour time period, three packages were shipped from New Jersey to an address in Spring Hill. Investigation revealed that the three packages contained miscellaneous items, cocaine, and heroin. One package contained a total of 5,000 individually wrapped glassine packets, each being a single dose of heroin. Each of the packets was stamped with pictures of President Donald Trump, El Chapo, or Pablo Escobar. Another package contained about 27 grams of cocaine.
