TAMPA – A Gulfport man who shot into an occupied home has been sentenced for federal prison because, as a convicted felon, he was not allowed to possess a gun, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida said.

Lamont Guinyard, 30, of Gulfport, was sentenced to four years and three months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Guinyard pleaded guilty April 8.

According to testimony and evidence presented at the sentencing hearing, in October 2018, Guinyard fired a gun into an occupied residence. Several individuals were inside the home at the time. One bullet entered, and was recovered from, a young child’s room. The child was not injured.

At the time, Guinyard had multiple prior felony convictions and is, therefore, prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
