The idea of honoring Dad on a special day is more than 100 years old. But the national holiday is less than half a century old. History.com tells us that the first Father’s Day was declared in the state of Washington in 1910. It became a nationwide holiday in 1972, a whole 58 years after Mother’s Day was made a formal national day.
