Here’s what’s happening in Seminole for the next few weeks.

8 a.m. Wednesday (June 28):  Monthly chamber breakfast. Your Future is Your Responsibility, Not Your Children’s is the topic. Networking and opportunity to make announcements about your upcoming activities. Complimentary breakfast provided by our breakfast sponsor & presenter Garden Sanctuary & Cemetery

7 p.m. Wednesday: At the Seminole Historical Society Museum, 7464 Ridge RoadGuest speaker Lu Vickers. Topic: Cypress Gardens, America’s Tropical Wonderland. Author Lu Vickers will discuss her book and share her insights about Cypress Gardens, the history of Winter Haven and the impact of Dick Pope in Winter Haven and throughout Florida. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

When Dick Pope transformed the swampland on the edge of Lake Eloise in Winter Haven into Cypress Gardens, he created an attraction that would become world famous, and in the process, cemented Florida’s reputation as the land of sun and fun. He achieved these feats with the unlikely combination of flowers, water skiers and Southern Belles.

Lu Vickers’ talk on Cypress Gardens will feature a slide show of vintage photographs from the Garden’s archives that will take the audience on a journey through Cypress Garden’s history from the 1930s to 2009 when it was sold to Legoland. Vickers will discuss the creation of the world famous waterski show, the Gardens, and the iconic Southern Belles, and will explain how Dick Pope, Cypress Garden’s flamboyant owner, became known as the “Man who Invented Florida.”

Museum visiting hours at present are 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturdays.

July 26: Free Chamber Business breakfast, 8 a.m. at the Chamber. Social Media for Small Businesses, Kurt Forester presenter

July 27:  GFWC Pinellas Seminole Woman’s Club invites you to A SUMMER BREEZE EVENT, Ice Cream Social & Membership Drive, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Lake Seminole Square, 8333 Seminole Blvd.  Take a break from the heat and enjoy a fun afternoon meeting old and new friends. Make your favorite ice cream sundae while enjoying a very special Summer Breeze cocktail.  There will be raffles, door prizes, and a special sale of new and gently used jewelry.  The cost is $7 per person if reservations are made by July 22.  The cost at the door is $8.  Please RSVP by calling Eleanor at (727) 397-7525 or Pat at (727) 709-3778 or send your check to PSWC, PO Box 8650, Seminole, FL 33775. Aug. 23:  Free Chamber Business breakfast, 8 a.m. at the Chamber. Marketing Strategies for Small Businesses, Wayne Brass presenter

Aug. 25: The Seminole Chamber of Commerce  will have a “Healthy, Wealthy & Wise” Expo 7:30 a.m. (vendor setup) to 3 p.m. at Seminole Garden Apartments Peacock Center, 8324 112th St. N meeting hall. Vendors we are seeking include any business or organization that promotes a healthy lifestyle with product or service. Cost is $75 for Chamber members and $100 for non-Chamber members. Cost includes 8 ft. long banquet table with 2 or more chairs. Electricity is available on a limited basis.

  • All day complimentary coffee will provided by Seminole Garden Community Club. At noon, there will be food to purchase (hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, salads)
  • The location has plenty of parking and there is a convenient drop off for vendors. Stage is available for workshops, with big screen TV
  • Sound system available with portable mic to announce door prize winners, we are asking each business to bring a gift bag or gift card ($15 minimum)  for a drawing
  • Examples of Categories: Free health screenings, samples, products, services, Home/health Natural products, Fitness, Weigh Loss, Pain Relief, Home Health Care, Long Term Care, Insurance, Chiropractic, Food/Nutrition, counseling, coaching, skin care, cosmetics, medical clinic, pharmacy, financial planning, banking
