The Seminole Chamber of Commerce talks about the success of the Seminole Stampede and looks ahead to the opening of the city’s first hotel.

It was a true Chamber of Commerce day on March 25 at Walsingham Park for the 24th Annual Seminole Stampede. Some 300 participants either walked or ran – each and every one who attended was a winner! Congratulations to Anona Elementary School and the Anona Eagles Running Club, which signed up 85 Stampede participants – they will receive a voucher from Allen Sports Center (thank you, Don Bates) for $500 playground/sports equipment. Second place for participation goes to Bay Pines Lutheran – the school will receive a Chick-fil-A party (thank you, Gary and Sandra Malanowski).

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Fisher House (used for military families) at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center. If you did not attend the Stampede and would like to make a donation, please call the Seminole Chamber for details at (727) 392-3245.

This past Friday (March 31) saw a ribbon cutting at Lavendar Nail Bar and the Relay for Life of Central Pinellas at Seminole High School. The Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event and, since 1985, has grown into the world’s largest movement to end cancer.  Relay is a community event where teams and individuals come together to celebrate the cancer survivors in our communities, remember those in our lives that have been touched by cancer, and where people fund raise to fight back with much needed research and patient services. Coming up in April:

Saturday (April 8): The Eighth Annual Forever Friends Golf Tournament at Seminole Lake Country Club. The tournament memorializes the lives of Keith MacCollom, Joey Ruzecki, Nate Richardson and LeShawn Smith, four students who were killed in a tragic car accident April 10, 2009. Keith, Joey and Nate were Seminole High School students LeShawn was a student at Largo High School. Proceeds go toward academic and athletic scholarships.

April 12: Ribbon Cutting at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 4816 100^th Way N, Seminole’s first hotel.

April 19: Tribute to Teachers Breakfast, 7:30 a.m., Community Center, Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road

April 20: Social from 5 p.m -7 p.m. at Brookdale Living Bay Pines, 9797 Bay Pines Blvd.
