PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County Economic Development and the city of St. Petersburg Economic Development were the winners of the Florida Economic Development Council’s 2018 Deal of the Year Award for outstanding achievement in the relocation or expansion of a business in the state of Florida.

The collaborative team was recognized for facilitating Jabil’s construction of a new worldwide headquarters in Pinellas County, a project that will bring Jabil’s 2,000 local employees onto one cohesive campus in St. Petersburg. It is projected to create 300 new jobs.

In February 2018, Jabil announced plans to invest an estimated $67.3 million in its corporate headquarters expansion and new innovation lab in the fast growing Gateway district of St. Petersburg.

“Economic development is a team sport, and we were honored to collaborate with the city of St. Petersburg and Enterprise Florida to ensure Jabil expanded their headquarters in Pinellas County,” said Mike Meidel, director of Pinellas County Economic Development.

Alan DeLisle, the city of St. Petersburg Development Administrator, said, “Jabil’s decision to remain and expand in St. Petersburg is vital to the region’s economy and is part of the ‘Grow Smarter Strategy,’ the city’s strategy to retain and attract growth industries, including specialized manufacturing firms. Jabil is a major employer and philanthropic contributor in St. Petersburg and fits with our strategy to attract and retain growth industries, including specialized manufacturing firms such as Jabil. Jabil’s plans to expand here shows that the city is a great location for growing companies.”
