Clearwater Kmart to Close

The closing is one of 45 Kmart and 18 Sears stores across the country that will close in late January.

CLEARWATER – The Kmart store on U.S. 19 N is one of 63 Kmart and Sears stores that will close in late January, according to Sears Holdings Corp.

The closure is part of the company’s continued effort to “right size our store footprint in number and size,” according to a company statement. “In the process, as previously announced, we will
continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members.”

The closing affects 45 Kmart and 18 Sears stores across the country. The Clearwater store, 26996 U.S. 19 N, is the only Tampa Bay store affected.Stores in Kenneth City, Tampa, Bredenton, Brandon, Hudson, and Ellenton remain open.

Other Florida stores slated for closure are in Milton and Sebring.

“It’s important to note that these stores will remain open to serve members during the holiday season,” the statement says. “Eligible associates impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores. Customers can use the store locator function on our web sites to find the location of their nearest Kmart and Sears stores. Liquidation sales will begin as early as Nov. 9 at these closing stores.”
