‘Burg Buys Local Week’ Kicks Off Today

Buy Local | St. Petersburg | Burg Buys Local Week

Mayor Rick Kriseman has declared this to be “Burg Buys Local” week to help local businesses recover from Hurricane Irma.

ST. PETERSBURG -Want to help St. Pete recover from Hurricane Irma?

Well, then buy local to help small and locally owned businesses get back on track. That’s the idea behind Mayor Rick Kriseman’s official declaration of “Burg Buys Local Week,” which kicks off today (Sept. 24) and runs through Oct. 1.

The Sunshine City’s locally-owned, independent businesses are integral to the unique flavor of the city, officials said. This week, business community leaders and city officials have come together to encourage residents to choose local and support neighborhood and locally owned businesses in response to Irma’s disruption.

Now more than ever, pfficials said, local businesses need residents to rally around them and show them how important they are to the community.

Here’s how you can help: Next week, make it a goal to shop, play, eat, drink, give and live local in every pocket of the city. Share how you’re embracing and experiencing “Burg Buys Local Week” on social media. City officials will be doing the same.

Follow St. Petersburg’s social media channels and use the hashtag #StPeteRecovers for the chance to be featured.
