Tourism tax revenues are up as are hotel occupancy rates.

HERNANDO COUNTY – The Florida’s Adventure Coast, Brooksville – Weeki Wachee Visitors Bureau and Tourist Development Council announce an increase in year-to-date tax collections of 12 percent, with the month of May up 14.3 percent over last year.

Key Performance Indicators among area lodging reflect increased visitation as well. Occupancy was up 3.3 percent, average daily rates were up 4.9 percent, and the revenue per available room increase of 8.3 percent showed more visitors spent more time and money on Florida’s Adventure Coast this year than last.

“The steady growth of Tourism and its economic impact here on Florida’s Adventure Coast, continues to benefit the entire community,” noted Tammy Heon, manager of tourism development. “As a major economic driver in Hernando County, tourism’s growth is resulting in new and expanding businesses and additional jobs. Hotels are reporting additional hiring and local spending for renovations and upgrades, all of which positively impacts the local economy, as well as the guest experience. With the opening of our newest attraction, TreeUmph! Adventure Course coming in September, we look forward to even more growth for our partners and the local economy.”

Florida’s Adventure Coast Visitors Bureau’s mission is to identify, create, support and enhance activities, consistent with community assets that increase visitation and provide local economic impact. Funds for the Visitors Bureau are derived from the TDT, also known as “bed tax” revenue, a five percent surcharge on all transient accommodations (hotels, motels, vacation home rentals, bed & breakfast inns, campgrounds and other lodging leased for six months or less) within Hernando County.
